We have just completed a redesign of our website. The information has been reorganized and some new items added. The menu items have changed to make it easier to find commonly used items. The links for the Online Firework Applications and Searchable Databases are now found along the top instead of the lower left hand corner. Other changes are the Calendar has been removed from the menu. The Simulator Trailer schedule is now under Programs-Services/Fire Prevention. The School Fire Drill form is now found at Forms - Miscellaneous. The Training Calendar may be found at the Training Division’s website. NEW TOLL FREE ARSON HOTLINE The State Fire Marshal Office is proud to announce the addition of a toll free arson hotline. The number is 888-WY-ARSON (888-992-7766). As always, anyone with information on any fire or incident, not just arson, may call either the TOLL-FREE Arson Hotline, or the Lincoln number to report this information. FIRE DEATHS2003 – 19 civilians1 firefighters 2004 – 9 civilians 2 firefighters 2005 – 25 civilians 1 firefighters 2006 – 20 civilians 1 firefighters FIREWORK INJURIESAs of July 31, 2006 hospitals have sent us reports of 147 firework-related injuries during the survey period of June 25 through July 5, 2006. This is the third highest total of reported injuries. 2001 had the highest number of reported injuries with 184. Ninety-nine of the 147 injuries occurred to children ages 19 and under. The most injuries occurred in Lincoln with 28 followed by Omaha with 20 and McCook with 9. Complete statistics are now available. FIRE SAFETY CAMPAIGN FOR PEOPLE AGE 50 AND OLDERBased upon statistical results, adults 65 and older made up 32% of the residential fire deaths in Nebraska, and are twice as likely to die in a home fire as the rest of the population.
