NEW TOLL FREE ARSON HOTLINE
888-WY-ARSON

The State Fire Marshal Office is proud to announce the addition of a toll free arson hotline. The number is 888-WY-ARSON (888-992-7766). As always, anyone with information on any fire or incident, not just arson, may call either the TOLL-FREE Arson Hotline, or the Lincoln number to report this information. If an investigator is not in the office at the time of a call, the caller may leave a message on the voice mail system. Callers may remain anonymous if you wish.

FIREWORK INJURIES

As of July 31, 2008 hospitals have sent us reports of 140 firework-related injuries during the survey period of June 25 through July 5, 2008. Completed statistics reports are available.

FIRE SAFETY CAMPAIGN FOR PEOPLE AGE 50 AND OLDER

Based upon statistical results, adults 65 and older made up 32% of the residential fire deaths in Nebraska, and are twice as likely to die in a home fire as the rest of the population. For more information on this safety campaign visit www.usfa.dhs.gov/50Plus/

ONLINE FIREWORKS APPLICATIONS

The online application for Retail/Distributor/Jobber fireworks licenses is now available. The fireworks display application is still available as well. Click on the link Online Applications on the orange menu bar above and then Fireworks Displays.

We have included an informational sheet from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that explains their requirements for permits and storage of display fireworks.

GENERAL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

The company manufacturing General Fire Extinguishers went out of business. The company that bought the brand name no longer produces the extinguishers.
