Water-Based Fire Protection System Contractor

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office requires all Water-Based Fire Protection System Contractors conducting work within the State of Nebraska to be certified. Part of the certification process involves a designated Responsible Managing Employee passing a written test administered by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The test must be completed at the State Fire Marshal’s Office. There is no pre-determined testing schedule. Each applicant is scheduled individually at a time that is mutually acceptable to the applicant and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The following regulations, forms and publications pertain to Contractors:

• Water-Based Fire Protection System Installers Listing of sprinkler system installers that are certified in the state of Nebraska
• Water-Based Fire Protection Systems (Title 153, Chapter 19): Specifies certification requirements for water-based fire protection system contractors and other requirements for sprinkler systems.
• Application Form: Use this form to apply to be a Water-Based Fire Protection System Contractor.
• Test Code List: List of Codes that the water-based fire protection system contractor test encompasses.
• Contractor’s Material and Test Certificate for Underground Piping: This form must be completed before final approval is given for the underground piping installed for water-based fire protection systems.
• Contractor’s Material and Test Certificate for Aboveground Piping: This form must be completed before final approval is given for the aboveground piping installed for water-based fire protection systems.
• Fire Sprinkler Inspection: This form must be completed and submitted to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for inspections conducted on water-based fire protection systems.
